Frequently asked questions
Questions about
a renovation.
Don't see your question here? Get in touch β we're happy to answer it before you schedule a consultation.
That depends on the size of the bathroom, the condition of the pipework and electrics, whether the layout changes and which materials you choose. After the consultation you receive an itemised quotation setting out what will be done for each part, so it's clear where the costs sit.
A complete renovation consists of steps that follow one another, with materials that need to cure in between. The duration therefore depends on the scope of the work and on what we find after the demolition. With the quotation we provide a schedule showing the phases and the expected duration for your bathroom.
Usually, yes. Moving the shower, basin and toilet is possible, provided the pipework and drainage allow it. The drainage is the deciding factor: it needs fall. During the consultation we look at what the structure and the existing connections make possible.
Yes. We install electric underfloor heating with its own thermostat. It is tested before the screed goes over it. The underfloor heating may only be switched on once the adhesive and grout have cured sufficiently; which curing time applies depends on the system and materials used, and we tell you at handover.
Yes. Plumbing, drainage, electrics, ventilation and underfloor heating are part of the renovation. The pipework is pressure-tested and the electrics checked before the walls are closed. You don't need to bring in separate parties for that.
In an apartment, often yes, certainly when work is done on pipework, drainage or structure. Exactly what is needed is set out in the house rules of your building's owners association (VvE). We look into this before the work starts and align the planning with the agreements on working hours, access and removal of construction waste.
Yes. You choose the tiles, the sanitary ware, the cabinetry and the taps yourself. We think along with you about what works well technically and practically in your room β for example about tile format in a small bathroom, or about the shower drain with a level-access walk-in shower.
Yes. The consultation, the quotation and the communication during the project can all be in English. This website is also available in English and Portuguese.
After the demolition we inspect what has become visible: damp, mould, the structure and the condition of the pipework and electrics. If we come across something that needs attention, we discuss it with you before building further β including what it means for the schedule and the costs.
Usually you can, but the bathroom itself cannot be used while the work is going on. If it is the only bathroom in the home, that's an important point to discuss in advance when the planning is drawn up.
The floor, the shower and the wet walls get a watertight layer before any tiling goes on. Corners, the joint between floor and wall and the pipe penetrations get extra attention, because that is where leaks start. Tiles and grout are not waterproofing in themselves.
Yes, removing the demolition and construction waste is part of the job. In an apartment we agree in advance how that will work in practice, including the routes through the building and any arrangements with the VvE.
